Telecommunicator Job Description

Dispatchers working at Linn County E911 Central Dispatch will answer numerous calls for help and service 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The men and women who will staff this communications center will be committed to the protection of life and property of the citizens in Linn County. Dispatchers are the “first” first responders and will protect citizens by dispatching the appropriate personnel to locations where violation of the law, suspicious activity, traffic accidents, injuries, fires, reckless driving, etc. is occurring. Dispatchers are trained to deal with a wide variety of emergency incidents and deal with high stress situations.
Tasks:
  • Answering 911 calls for the area
  • Paging and dispatching for 8 fire departments
  • Paging and dispatching for medical responder districts
  • Paging and dispatching for Linn County Ambulance District
  • Handling all radio traffic for Linn County law enforcement agencies
  • Answering regular non-emergency calls from citizens
  • Maintaining various records and retrieving information on MULES (Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System). Records include but not limited to: warrants, orders of protection and sexual offender information
  • Logging records of all calls and dispositions into our computer aided dispatch (CAD) software
  • Broadcast watches/warnings to local emergency personnel and activate storm sirens in event of a tornado warning
  • Interpreting and relaying directions to responders
  • Providing appropriate emergency medical instructions to callers

Certifications that will be required (if not possessed training will be provided):
  • State of Missouri Basic Telecommunicator-APCO or comparable
  • MULES Full Access-MSHP
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch- Powerphone
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation- AHA or comparable
  • National Incident Management System- NIMS/ICS
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness- HAZMAT
